Letterboxing in CT

Hey all,

We just got back from a letterboxing weekend in CT.  We had a blast and found eight new stamps to add to our book.  The Tunix trail in Bristol, CT (3 letterboxes in all) was magnificent and the rock formations were a must see.  We're happy to report that the 2 boxes we found were in excellent condition.  Somehow, we passed the second one, but were too tired to turn back.   The revamped Elizabeth Park Letterbox (Hartford) was in great shape and the gardens were beautiful.   Lastly, we enjoyed the Lewis & Clark letterboxes in Woodbridge, CT, and all three were in great shape.  It looked like we just missed a few hitchhikers...Shucks...

It seems to me that I see more new boxes announced in CT than in most
other states! Wasn't the first US letterbox planted in CT?

No. First confirmed "post-Smithsonian" letterbox was
placed in North Carolina. How's that for qualifications ? :)

Others have placed other qualifications to place the first
elsewhere, but it was not CT in any case.

Cheers

I'm also new to letterboxing. I live in the Maryland suburbs of DC. There are lots of beautiful hikes near here. Does anyone know of any letterboxes in the area?
